I know, I know. This is a super 8 forum. Bite me. Some of you have a Scoopic and this cable is VERY rare and hard to find:

Well hey while were on the subject I was interested in yes, buying a 16mm camera. Sorry I am not trying to go against the Super 8 vowes of filmmaking or anything but just wanted to start experimenting with it. I have been looking on Ebay for a little while and decided I can't really afford an Arriflex which I want real badly. My choices are between the Bolex and the Canon, or am I missing another good 16 camera for around a $500 price range? I really want a motorized camera and not a wind up. I guess I just don't like the idea of a crazy wild wind up motor. I might try sync sound shooting via DAT and transfer to video. I absolutely want a zoom lens and would love the mirror shutter feature that the Arri has. I would also love the option to rewind the film so I can do double exposures. Also timelapse would be a great feature. I don't know, I just wanted to raise the question for those of you out there that have used these cameras.

What's a good 16mm camera out there for a good cost and features such things I am looking for?

Please forgive my temporary interest in Super 8's big brother, 16mm.

Hey, it's all film. We'd all give our left nut to have a bigger frame. The Scoopics are handy. The Russian cameras are really a good deal and can be motorized easily. The nice thing is they take M42 lenses which are really cheap and easy to find but also very sharp if you can find the original Takumars. Beaulieu R16s are probably you best bet. They have all the features you asked for. They're like flies on eBay and go anywhere from damn near free to $900, depending on which way the wind is blowing.

    Good luck!

Roger, I have the Canon DS-8 which is shaped just like the Scoopic 16 and uses the same plug for 12v external power. So this is very relevant to Double Super 8 users smile
